Episode “Truth, Justice and the American Way” of “Supergirl” reveals a new side to Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As the television series matures, crime fighting takes its toll on Kara. Gone is the happy-go-lucky girl next door. She is becoming cynical of the world and her role in it.
Kara’s definition of justice is personalized, rather than objective truth. James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) questions the ethics of Kara and the DEO in regards to Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli). Olsen and Kara have different visions for Lord’s future.
Kara deals with anger issues over the death of her aunt, General Astra (Laura Benanti). Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a secret she is keeping from Kara.
The latest villain, Carl Draper (Jeff Branson) the Master Jailer, comes up with his own justice for escaped prisoners of Fort Rozz. Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) hires a new assistant, Siobhan Smythe (Italia Ricci). Smythe and Kara are not friends. Also, Smythe has a little secret of her own.
Best episode trivial line was when Kara realized she gets the opportunity to take down a corrupt police detective. She tells Alex, “I wanted to catch a corrupt cop ever since we binge watched “The Wire.”
